Thirteen boats charging to mark 1 gives you five or six battles at once and no way to follow them all. Cut that to seven, and the tactical picture finally makes sense. Add the four-boat final's "trap door", where third defends the cheque and fourth walks away with nothing, and you've got double the jeopardy.
